Spacious and quiet apartments located in Barcelona
The current building, with an unquestionable charm, was built in 1860 and is a clear example of the profound transformation suffered by the structure of the neighborhood as well as the architecture of Barcelona in the 19th century. There started the use of lighter, more dynamic forms, with a better structural analysis that allowed to make buildings more stylized, with more openings and, therefore, with better lighting.
New architectural typologies appeared, such as the pointed arch and the ribbed vault; as well as the use of buttresses and flying buttresses to support the structure of the buildings, which allowed larger interiors and decorated with large windows and balconies.
The Gothic Quarter is the oldest area and where the Roman and Jewish parts have been preserved over the years. We found the Gothic buildings, representatives of the height of Barcelona and its culture during the middle Ages. The “cardus” and the Roman “decumanus” are the historical urbanization axes of the neighborhood, whose center is the Plaza de Santiago. The structure remained intact until the nineteenth century, period in which there were major transformations in its morphology.
